The Universal Audio Volt 1 Gen 2 is a USB audio interface designed for singer-songwriters and content creators who want to record vocals and instruments simultaneously. The tone-shaping preamp adds character to the recording right from the start, and with physical controls, you can set the vocal and guitar levels directly on the device.

Three preamp tone options for vocals and instruments

A good take starts with a sound that supports the performance. The Tone Shaping preamp’s Warmth, Focus, and Shine modes offer the tones of tube preamps, transistor-based preamps, and British A-class preamps. You can choose the right character during recording instead of leaving all sound shaping to the mixing stage. The preamp provides 60 dB of gain for adjusting the microphone signal.

Record vocals and guitar simultaneously

Alongside the microphone and line inputs, there is a separate Hi-Z instrument input, allowing you to record vocals and guitar at the same time on two input channels. The switchable 48 V phantom power supplies condenser microphones. When singing and playing simultaneously, you can capture the performance in one take instead of recording parts separately. The headphone output uses the same monitor mix as the monitor outputs.

32-bit sound from recording to playback

The AD/DA conversion operates at 32-bit resolution and up to a 192 kHz sample rate. Connect monitor speakers or headphones and listen to how vocals and guitar blend together. USB bus power enables use with a computer, tablet, or phone when the connected device provides sufficient power. This makes the same audio interface suitable for desktop use and on-the-go recordings.

Loopback for podcasts and live streams

Loopback combines the computer audio with microphone and instrument signals. You can use this feature for podcasting, live streaming, or video calls. Volt 1 Gen 2 works with Mac, Windows, iPad, and iPhone. On Windows, the ASIO driver is available via the UA Connect app, and Apple devices with a Lightning connector require a separate camera adapter. This adapter is not needed for iPhones or iPads with USB-C connectors.

UAD plugins and LUNA for finishing your track

When moving from recording to mixing, the included LUNA recording software and UAD plugins offer tools for building your track. The selection includes LA-2A and 1176 compressors, Pure Plate Reverb, and the PolyMAX synthesizer. Additional software includes Melodyne Essential and a three-month subscription to FL Studio Producer Edition. Software package contents may change according to the manufacturer’s notice.
