The Garmin Forerunner 70 is a GPS running watch that provides runners with essential information – pace, distance, and wrist-based heart rate – on a bright 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen. The watch includes training and recovery tracking tools such as daily workout suggestions, HRV status, morning summary, and wrist-based running dynamics metrics. Battery life lasts up to 13 days in smartwatch mode and up to 23 hours in GPS mode.

Daily Workout Suggestions and Garmin Coach

The watch suggests daily workouts that adapt based on performance and recovery. Suggestions also include run-walk workouts. Garmin Coach training plans help prepare for events or improve fitness – plans are available for beginners with lower training volume as well as for more experienced runners who want to train with higher volume and intensity.

Recovery and Health Monitoring

The HRV status tracks intervals between consecutive heartbeats during sleep and provides insights into recovery and overall condition. The morning summary shows sleep quality, recovery, HRV status, and the day’s calendar upon waking. The sleep score feature offers an overview of sleep quality. The recovery time estimate indicates how long to rest before the next strenuous workout.

Running Dynamics and Running Power from the Wrist

The Forerunner 70 measures running dynamics directly from the wrist without a separate sensor. Metrics tracked include cadence, stride length, and ground contact time. Wrist-based running power shows how much power is applied to the surface, helping manage training load.

Training Tools

Acute load compares recent training load to the target range and helps develop fitness in a controlled manner. The quick workout feature allows creating a running workout directly on the watch based on desired duration and intensity. There are over 80 built-in sport profiles, including cycling, swimming, and strength training.

Safety and Notifications

If the watch detects an accident, it can send a message and location to a contact person. Messages can also be sent manually. The watch displays emails, text messages, and other notifications when connected to a phone.

Lightweight and Long-lasting

The Forerunner 70 weighs 40 g and measures 42.6 x 42.6 x 11.9 mm. The strap fits wrists measuring 126–203 mm. Battery life lasts up to 13 days in smartwatch mode and up to 23 hours in GPS mode, so the watch can handle multiple days of training and daily use without charging.
