Cold snaps before the heating season, a chilly office corner or a draughty summer house - electric heaters cover all of these. Fan heaters warm a room fastest, oil-filled radiators run quietly and hold heat long after switching off, convectors suit steady background heating, and infrared models warm people and objects rather than the air. As a rule of thumb, allow about 1 kW of power per 10 square metres. A thermostat keeps the temperature steady, and tip-over protection matters in homes with children or pets.
