Video recording equipment (DVR)

At the heart of a surveillance system sits the recorder: a DVR captures footage from analogue cameras, an NVR takes IP camera streams over the network. Recordings go to an internal hard drive and can be reviewed on site or from a phone. Plan channels with headroom - eight cameras call for at least eight inputs. Check the supported resolution, compatibility with your cameras and how much drive capacity the unit accepts. Models with PoE ports also power IP cameras through the same cable that carries the video.
