The Edge®1040 Solar is our first solar-powered GPS cycling computer and includes a comprehensive range of features. You can enjoy driving for even longer. Solar charging increases battery life by up to 20 minutes / hour during the day1.

The Edge®1040 range has multiple satellite connections for good coverage in the shade of trees, mountain trails and street shafts. The performance features of the device help to understand your own strengths and weaknesses as a cyclist, and encourage you to overcome all challenges. The Edge®1040 can help you control your workload by suggesting performance goals along the route, and the stamina feature advises how long you can still tread. Setting up your device is easy. The ride can be reached almost immediately.

Cyclists from all over the world have uploaded many billions of miles of driving data to the online community during its existence. The popular Trendline routing technology makes efficient use of driving data. When creating a driving route, the Edge 1040 looks for the best route among the roads (and trails) most frequently used by other cyclists. You can also create more popular bike routes with Garmin Connect's enhanced and revamped Course Creator.

Garmin guides you on the road and off-road. The Edge 1040 cycling computer includes a preloaded worldwide Garmin cycling map, detailed navigation instructions, and new navigation alerts that warn of sharp turns ahead. As you drive, you get useful altitude information, see waypoints, and can search for addresses. Tour routing even creates a route for you. Just enter the distance and starting direction for the Edge 1040, and it will show up to 3 route options. In addition, the smart function will guide you back to the route if you deviate from it. The Edge 1040 also helps you plan long journeys. Its battery lasts for up to 100 hours, and thanks to the integrated Garmin Charge battery, it lasts as long as you have it.

You no longer have to pick up the phone or worry about your cycling buddy if you miss him or her. The Drivers Message feature lets you send preconfigured messages from your Edge 1040 to others. For example, you can let your friends know if you plan to catch them in a few minutes, or if you want them to continue without you. If a tire breaks or you need help, you can send a message to your friends who you added to GroupTrack3 to find you.

The Edge 1040 also supports other types of connections. You can answer missed calls or text messages with ready-made messages4, such as "Coming soon". You can ensure the peace of mind of your friends and family (or your driving buddies) by letting them track your driving in real time with LiveTrack and GroupTrack. Use automatic downloads to Garmin Connect, download free apps and widgets from ™, and easily download device software updates over Wi-Fi®.
