Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 video doorbell. Aqara G4 is a unique video doorbell that works with AA batteries by default, but can also be connected to the mains if necessary. Aqara G4 is the first battery-powered video doorbell that supports the Apple HomeKit Secure Video service. Also compatible with numerous other services, such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa virtual assistants. The video doorbell contains local AI artificial intelligence, which is used for e.g. facial recognition alarms.

The resolution of the video doorbell is Full HD 1920 x 1080 with a good 162° angle. In addition to good image quality, other features include, for example, two-way audio, IR night vision, a passive infrared sensor and support for local memory card recording. The memory card is installed in the doorbell that comes inside, so the memory card cannot be accessed through the doorbell.

The Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 video doorbell is connected to the home's wireless 2.4 GHz wireless WiFi network. Or more precisely, the included doorbell works as a WiFi repeater and the doorbell is connected to the home's wireless network. The doorbell and the G4 video doorbell are already paired with each other at the factory, which means the devices automatically establish a wireless connection. The bell has a USB-C connection and a USB cable is included. A 5V 1A power source or, if necessary, a battery bank can be used as a power source for the doorbell.

The video doorbell includes a local AI artificial intelligence that can be used for facial recognition. The video doorbell can be taught to recognize the faces of family members and notifications are based on recognized faces (the feature can also be turned off). Regarding motion detection, the video doorbell also includes a passive infrared sensor, which improves the reliability of detection. G4 can also recognize the so-called unauthorized presence or tampering with the video doorbell and alerts with a bell and notification if these are detected.

By default, the camera makes recordings on a separately purchased microSD memory card. The memory card is exceptionally installed in the doorbell, and not directly in the video doorbell itself. If the video doorbell is used with batteries, recordings are made based on motion or face detection. When using the video doorbell with mains power, continuous 24/7 recording to the memory card can be enabled. Aqara also offers a cloud service that stores a maximum of seven (7) days of motion detection recordings (terms of service and pricing may change later). The cloud service is not mandatory, i.e. recordings from motion detection can always be made to a memory card as well (recording length six seconds at a time).

The Smart Video Doorbell G4 offers full support for the Apple HomeKit Secure Video feature. HomeKit Secure Video provides end-to-end encrypted video and data security. This ensures that only users of the video doorbell have access to the camera's image stream and recordings. You can also make rules and automations between other HomeKit devices in the home. Naturally, G4 also includes full support for Aqara's own ecosystem. If you use the Aqara hub and other sensors and additional devices connected to it, the G4 video doorbell can be used as one device when creating rules. For example, if a separate motion detector detects movement, a rule can be created that immediately activates the bell (95 dB volume) supplied with the G4.

Privacy protection has been taken into account for both the user and the neighbors. When using two-way audio, your own voice can be made unrecognizable. Regarding neighbors and the environment, a maximum of three separate areas can be marked/covered from the camera image

Battery life up to 4 months. The battery life is essentially affected by the operating temperature, settings, use of the video doorbell, and the number of motion detections. A duration of 4 months is possible if the video doorbell wakes up max. 35 times a day and makes a six-second recording every day. The HomeKit Secure Video feature requires the user to have at least a 50 GB iCloud+ storage subscription, as well as an Apple TV or HomePod speaker acting as a home hub. If there are several video doorbells or cameras in the service (max. 5 pcs), you need a 200 GB subscription. A 2 TB storage subscription supports an unlimited number of cameras.
